The historic church, dedicated to the patron saint of Thessaloniki, was originally built as a small oratory in the 4th century AD. The entrance to the crypt is located beside the right pier of the sanctuary and leads to the site of the saint’s martyrdom, situated in an area that was once part of the city’s large Roman bath complex.
